Steve Bott

Hi, my name is Steve Bott. I was born in and started duck hunting in Nebraska. I have pursued waterfowl on the Missouri River from Yankton SD to Falls City NE. I still love to hunt the Missouri River or surrounding bottoms with lifelong friends. In 1984 I won the Nebraska state duck calling championship in the first ever contest held in the state. In 1988 I was the runner up. I competed in various regional contests throughout the Midwest from 1984 through 1989.

In 1989 I moved to Iowa and pursued waterfowl across the state. Hunting public lakes presents challenges different than the river. Hunters are closer together, many are excellent callers, and most have good boats and decoy spreads. But, that’s waterfowling.

Jerrett Fried

I was raised in northwest Iowa and grew up hunting pheasants. I soon started to inquire about other species to hunt. Turkey hunting soon became my new obsession. In college I moved away from pheasant country, and I soon picked up on waterfowl hunting. Although I have picked up many different areas of hunting, one thing that has never changed is my love of turkey hunting. I have focused a lot of time and energy on chasing the elusive gobbler.

I have had the opportunity to hunt turkeys in many states, including Florida. As I wait patiently for April, you can be guaranteed I will be in the duck boat with my best buddy, Cody, a 3 year old yellow Lab.

Paul Atwater

My name is Paul Atwater, and I am a resident of Albuquerque, NM. I enjoy all types of hunting ranging from elk and deer, to quail and duck, and the great state of New Mexico has all to offer. The greatest part of hunting in New Mexico is its diversity in terrain -- you can choose from desert flats in the southern part of the state, or the high mountain hunts of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

In addition to hunting New Mexico, I also hunt Texas (being a former resident) and below you'll find a picture of my latest kill -- a wild boar taken out of Briscoe County. What I hope I can portray with this picture is that pork is not just a verb.

Corey Cain

Whether it's in the woods or on the water, Corey Cain's passion for ducks and big bucks is second to none. Corey has been an accomplished outdoorsman since a very young age. He is part of a long family pedigree that has devoted their lives to enjoying the great outdoors. He learned his way to the water with is father and grandfather where he carried a 4/10 shotgun to the duck blind at 8 years old. Soon then after he found his passion for the ever elusive white tail buck while spending countless hours with his fifty caliber muzzle loader in hand.

Today his time is vested in bow hunting the rivers and hills of Iowa where he has countless encounters with monster bucks. He has harvested numerous big deer from Texas to Minnesota, and with every opportunity just simply enjoys the memories has taken along the way.

Steve Griebel

Steve Griebel, from northwest Iowa, spends his fall chasing waterfowl and his winter in pursuit of fox and 'yotes. Growing up in eastern Iowa along the Mississippi River, Steve was lucky enough to have healthy populations of all kinds of critters to chase and learned to pile up ducks, geese, and all kinds of furbearers. After 20 years of hunting, trapping, and calling critters up close, Steve has learned a few tricks that help him achieve success in the field each year.

Steve spends countless hours in the field observing wildlife year round. Being observant and dedicated to outdoor recreation has even allowed him to develop his own line of custom made calls.

Casey Springer

Hello, my name is Casey Springer. I am from Lebanon, a small town in the southwest corner of Nebraska. I have been hunting all of my life for upland game, waterfowl, and big game. Upland game is my true passion, as nothing beats a calm, cool morning with the dew on the ground and a good dog locked up on point.

Hunting in several states for upland birds, there are two common factors that always spell out success, your aim and the quality of your hunting partner. My aim may some times need a little help, but I wouldn't have those opportunities without my partner Tye. Tye is a five year old Weimaraner and a rock solid partner. Whether it is wild flushing pheasants or a quick covey of quail, a day chasing upland game is a day that Tye and myself try never to miss. Good luck with your hunting and we'll see you in the field.

Matthew LaCombe

My name is Matthew LaCombe.

I live and breathe waterfowl hunting and have been pursuing ducks and geese for 16 years in my home state of Michigan and in Ontario as well.

Divers are my preferred quarry while utilizing my MLB Supermag layout boat, and my hand painted diver blocks, but I cut my waterfowling teeth pursuing puddlers in a local marsh.

I had no mentor to teach me the ropes of waterfowling, I just learned by trial and error over the course of a few years and learn a bit more every time I head afield.

I typically hunt with my teenage sons Maxwell and Zachary and my Dad, as well as my lab Powder.

I hunt waterfowl 45 days plus per year, and hunt around 30 additional days per year pursuing other game.

I also hunt spring Turkeys and have managed to bag several here in Michigan over the past few years as well as guide my sons and father to birds of their own as well.

I am a board member of the Gibraltar Duck Hunters Association, a non-profit group of waterfowlers based in S.E. Michigan.

As part of the GDHA I am responsible for organizing our groups Youth Hunt each September where our members volunteer to take young hunters and their parents out and introduce them to waterfowling and for many to hunting itself.

After the hunt we have a group BBQ for everyone who participated and also and equipment giveaway for the young hunters.

The equipment that is given away to the young hunters is donated by various manufacturers and retailers that I contact in regard to the event.

The Youth Hunt also has a seminar or two each year, duck calling, goose calling, duck cleaning etc. And we also have one or two guest speakers from the USFWS and local DNR when they are available to attend.

The GDHA has hosted youngsters from all over the state of Michigan over the past few years, it is a great day each and every year!

As part of the GDHA I am also involved in various habitat projects in our area on both public and private lands.

I took part in a banding project for the first time last summer and will be volunteering again next year as well.

I also hunt deer on occasion, but have more or less forgotten about deer since I began waterfowling.

Luke Ramige

Hey y'all, my name is Luke Ramige I’m from northeast IA. I’ve been hunting since I can remember, it’s just a part of my blood. As a young boy I started duck hunting with my father and his buddies and it quickly became a part of me. I spend most of the fall hunting for greenheads over decoys. To me there is nothing better then a flock of mallards cupped and in your face. I do see some time in the tree stand with my bow and have taken a few nice deer with it. I also get plenty of time in the tall grass chasing pheasants, its more for my dog then me, but I can say that growing up in Iowa I have shot my fair share of rootners. Back to duck hunting I really started to get into the calling and have become good at it which seems to help when hunting public marshes, to me it’s either in you or its not. I have chased ducks all across the state and have even been in hunts in ND and MN and I hope to broaden my range in the future.

Attended college at Indiana University in the southern part of the state and got a job with the IDNR right out of school....working on the Ohio River. I have many relatives around Stuttgart, Arkansas where my family would gather each Thanksgiving to hunt. Waterfowl hunting is my passion, but I also love turkey and deer hunting as well. I travel to 4 different states in the spring to pursue the eastern wild turkey. I am in the field about 100 days of the hunting season, and I'm always scouting and finding new places to kill geese and ducks.

Brad Cantell

Hello! My name is Brad Cantell. I was born and raised in the northwest and I am currently living in the great state of Oregon. I live in the northeast corner of the state in Halfway, OR. With countless hours I have spent in the field, my passion for the outdoors only becomes greater with each passing year. Aside from being a hunter myself, I am also a full-time guide and camera-man for an outdoor production team. My life long passion is to hunt and film game, whether it is Rocky Mt. Elk and mule deer in the high peaks of eastern Oregon or Roosevelt Elk and Black tail deer in the coastal rainforest's.

The hunt for upland fowl, water fowl, wild turkeys, predators, and small game keeps me occupied until the fall seasons roll around; leading me again into another great year of hunting, filming and many great memories spent with family and friends. Good hunting and stay safe!

Neil Duffey

My name is Neil Duffey. Most know me as Duff or Big Duff. I was born in October of 1983. I hail from the metro Detroit Michigan area. My primary hunting grounds are the areas of Lake St. Clair and the St. Clair flats. I have been hunting since I was 19, self taught, w/ the help of some friends I had met online on a forum/site much like www.thehuntzone.com I have since taught my self how to call ducks and geese. Although I have not won any competitions or been a part of any professional teams, I have been asked to accompany parties to call for them. I am very passionate about the sport of waterfowl hunting. Mallards in the marsh or layout gunning for divers, I love it w/ a passion. I spent 3 years in college studying culinary arts, and am a certified classical chef. I have been offered positions out of state to be head chef and guide for waterfowl services, but for some wild reason passed every year. I also love to turkey hunt; fish, mainly ice fishing, and walleye fishing. I enjoy basically everything outdoors, all while being extremely down to earth and very approachable. Please feel free to contact me with any questions; hopefully I can give back what I have learned from others. Thank you and god bless.

John Ven Huizen

I was born and raised in Northwest Illinois where I started hunting at the age of 12 going after everything from squirrels to deer. I quickly found my passion was waterfowl hunting. A six year enlistment in the U.S. Coast Guard allowed me to move around the country and hunt everywhere from Michigan to the Chesapeake Bay to South Texas where I know live. I spend in excess of 300 days a year on the water either offshore running the "Ambush" a 31 foot Bertram out of Port Aransas or duck hunting in the Laguna Madre or my favorite saltwater marshes in the area. Duck Hunting in Illinois got my addiction started but diver hunting the big saltwater flats of South Texas was like putting gas on a bonfire. I spend countless hours scouting and tracking bird movement. I even make my own diver decoys. My wife says I'm addicted but I just consider myself passionate. But anyway, I think you need to be at least a little bit of an addict to be good at it. I am currently a member of the Coastal Bend Guides Assoc. and also the Port Aransas Boatmen Inc.. I am also a Coast Guard licensed Captain.

Thanks, Capt. John Ven Huizen

Jeremy Docken

My name is Jeremy Docken. My first duck hunt was with my dad when I was twelve years old. Ever since then I have been hooked to what hunting has to offer. I grew up hunting from my home town of Beresford, SD to the Missouri River along Springfield, SD and around the Lake Andes Refuge. Since moving to Madison, SD I have devoted most of my time to hunting Mallards and Canadian Geese. The number one thing that I have learned over the years to being a successful hunter is scouting.

I hunt every possible opportunity that South Dakota has to offer. Whether it be the many public slews around Madison, to field hunting and even the Missouri river from Pierre to Springfield. The number one hunt I look forward to each year is traveling to Bismarck, ND with my Dad and two brothers to go hunt the Greater Canadians with my relatives. Every hunt allows me to get away from every day life and spend time with friends and family and this is why I can’t get enough of it.

I've hunted river bottoms my whole life for deer and ducks. When I was 12 my dad finally found a spot in Illinois to turkey hunt and I was instantly hooked. It's my favorite game to hunt. I've killed four in Illinois and killed six on Missouri Public ground. In 2004 I also shot a 152 4/8 eight pointer placing me 2nd in the state. I live for the outdoors and when hunting season rolls around you'll most likely find me out chasing whatever's in season.

Ted Lake

Bowhunting Rocks!!! My name is Ted Lake and I live in the lower southwest corner of Michigan where I have lived my entire life. Archery and Bowhunting has been a part of my life since 1956, when my Dad, Deuaine Lake, started me into the sport. Since that time I have been honored in meeting some very important people in the archery world, especially Fred Bear, who my father field tested archery equipment for. My Dad was also President of the Michigan Bow Hunters (MBH) and kept me involved with promoting the sport of archery. I am currently building a web-site in honor of my Dad: www.complete-archery-information.com.

The love of the outdoors and bowhunting has been passed on to both of my boys and many of my friends, which in turn has introduced the sport to thousands across this great nation. Big game hunting, small game hunting and bowfishing are just a few of my real pleasures in life. One of my favorite sayings, which was also my Dads is; “If you teach your children to hunt, you will not have to hunt for them.” Conserving our Rights to Hunt and Fish is something that all sportsmen should be active in. I can lead you in the right direction, but you have to do the work and get involved.

LET’S FIGHT BACK!!!

Nikki Russell

My name is Nikki Russell and I am a 28-year-old natural born hunting gal from Tennessee. I am so excited and honored to be the first female field staff member on THEHUNTZONE.COM, and am passionate about getting other female hunters actively involved in this great sport!! I am an experienced hunter of whitetail deer and my weaponry of choice includes archery, muzzle loading, and of course, my rifle. My love for the outdoors and the sport of hunting has given me the opportunity to make memories of a life time with friends and family. It was my brother, a hunter with Boone and Crocket scores, who gave me my start in hunting. Due to my willingness and desire to learn, I often found myself in the truck along side my brother as we headed off in hopes of a big harvest!

I have been hunting now for over six years, and am an active member of TWRA (Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency) and their "Becoming an Outdoor Woman" program. This program is dedicated to women and their interest in the sport of hunting, weather experienced or just beginning. "Becoming an Outdoor Woman" promotes hunting and fishing, camping, white water rafting and a host of other outdoor activities. This is a great way to get involved in the outdoor world with the help of experienced sportsmen. As a member of the program, I was sponsored by Bass Pro Outdoor World in Nashville to participate in the muzzle load hunt back in 2002. There I harvested my very first muzzle load kill. In addition to this hunt, I have been fortunate enough to participate in many other exciting hunts given by TWRA. I am so proud to live in a state that takes such initiative to provide outdoor hunting opportunities for women!!

I have two goals as a hunter. One is to venture out of Tennessee and hunt where the big boys live, Ohio and Illinois. With my desire and passion, and longevity in the sport, I am certain I will one day live out this dream. My other goal is to give back to the hunting community what I have been so fortunate to learn from others. I would love to hear from you!

Please contact me with any questions you may have. Happy Hunting!

Dave Skinner

I've spent the last 10 years chasing whitetails, turkeys and small game from Kansas to South Carolina. About 5 years ago I started tinkering with making turkey calls for gifts and 3 years ago I expanded and started Lost River Game Calls. That little company has grown a lot and enabled me to meet a lot of good people in the industry and take another step up to producing my own TV show "The Average Outdoorsman". I spend countless hours every year in the woods and probably that many more exploring the internet and networking. I've built a pretty elaborate network of outdoors friends and contacts over the last 3 years. Next year I'm trimming back some of the hunts to concentrate on the TV show and expanding my outdoor career. I'll still be chasing whitetails in KY and KS and Turkeys in OK and KY. I support the NWTF, NRA (life member), DU, QDMA, KY Bowhunters, and I'm also a life member of the NAHC. That just about covers it.

My name is Paul Flicek. I am currently going to school in Ely, MN for Wildlife and Fisheries Management and Wildlife ecology. It is only my second year but I hope to get into some internship with the MN DNR this summer for waterfowl banding or fisheries. Waterfowl hunting is my passion, although I have been hunting since I could legally, mostly duck and goose, I still manage to go deer hunting, grouse, pheasant, rabbit, and predator hunting. I dream about sitting in the layout or duck blind all year round, and get no sleep during the season. There is nothing like the feeling of a flock of geese or ducks coming in hell bent for your decoys feet down! I also love to fish for anything all year round, freshwater or salt. I have had the opportunity to make a few deep sea fishing trips to Florida but usually fish the awesome waters of Minnesota. Every time I go out in the field I learn new things, especially because none of my family members were into waterfowl hunting. For that reason, I had to learn everything on my own and find my own gear with the help of some friends.

Casey Walker

I am an avid hunter of what ever is in season, but I mainly pursue deer, upland birds, and predators. I do most of my hunting on public ground and private ground that I have gained access to the old fashion way. I knock on doors and ask. I have no problem trading some sweat equity for the right to hunt a piece of property but being a teacher I cant afford to pay the high prices being asked for hunting rights. I believe in putting in the time to do it right and enjoy that part of the hunt as much as anything as a lot of my early season scouting is done with my 3 year old daughter. I hunt with rifle, muzzle loader, and shotgun. Living in western Nebraska has given me the opportunity to pursue a wide range of game species and become a well rounded hunter who has learned that simpler is better. I have used whitetail tactics like scouting travel lanes and ground blinds to kill coyotes, and barrowed the fawn in distress call from my coyote hunting to fill my antler less tags more then once. I feel that being flexible and keeping things simple is the best approach out here.
